What is a 'leaky gut?'
A leaky gut starts with an imbalance in the gut flora which causes damage to the intestinal mucosa of the lining of the gut and it becomes over permeable. Large molecules which are meant to be carried out the body as faeces and urine are able to pass the gut wall and be carried via the bowel lymphatics and blood to the liver. This creates an increased toxic load for the liver and a decrease in the absorption of required vitamins and minerals.

How do I as a Homeopath treat Leaky Gut Syndrome? I have a few different methods I use to treat the symptoms of a leaky gut and each prescription is tailored to each patient individually.
Constitutional Treatment or Classical Homeopathy
During the consultation my goal is to see the world through your eyes and match you to your constitutional remedy, this is the remedy that matches your personality and all your symptoms. The constitutional remedy gently stimulates the immune system to heal and overcome the dis-ease in your body.
Homeopathic Detox Therapy
A major cause of 'leaky gut' are pharmaceuticals such as the contraceptive pill, antibiotics, steroids and painkillers. If this presents as a causative factor in your case, these can be gently detoxed with homeopathic remedies over two months. Alongside the detox, a constitutional remedy is given and other organs are supported as needed, such as the liver, endocrine system kidneys, adrenals or skin.
Often prescribed with Constitutional Treatment and always with Homeopathic Detox Therapy, bowel nosodes help to support the gut flora. These homeopathic remedies remind the gut of how healthy flora should be which brings balance, once the gut flora returns to normal levels the intestinal wall or 'leaky gut' can begin to heal, bringing overall health to the body.
